O acidente aconteceu por volta do meio-dia, perto da Avenida Júlia Vasconcelos Bufarah, região central da cidade.

Conforme apuração do site Policial Padrão, o maquinista do trem contou o ocorrido à polícia.

Segundo o depoimento do homem, ele viu algo nos trilhos próximo à divisa de Nova Odessa. A princípio, ele achou que pudesse ser algum entulho ou saco de lixo, algo muito comum no trajeto.

Porém, quando chegou mais perto e percebeu que era uma pessoa, o maquinista acionou a buzina e o freio de emergência.

Por se tratar de um veículo pesado, o trem não para de imediato e a vítima acabou sendo atropelada.

Após o acidente, o maquinista saiu do veículo e chamou o segurança da empresa, a polícia e unidades de resgate.

O resgate contou com apoio do Corpo de Bombeiros, Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (Samu) e do helicóptero Águia da PM. Este último foi o responsável por transportar a vítima até o Hospital Estadual de Sumaré.

O homem teve o pé direito amputado e ficou internado em estado grave.

A área do acidente foi periciada e o caso comunicado na delegacia de Polícia Civil de Nova Odessa.
