O acidente aconteceu próximo à Estação Bandeirantes do BRT, um dos corredores de ônibus da cidade.

O caminhão levava o lixo de um aterro sanitário em Campinas para o de Paulínia (SP). De acordo com a Empresa Municipal de Desenvolvimento de Campinas (Emdec), o motorista da carreta não ficou ferido.

O sentido centro da avenida precisou ser bloqueado, o que provocou um grande congestionamento no trecho.

Agentes da Emdec, que já estavam no local em uma operação de trânsito por conta do horário de pico, auxiliaram o tráfego de veículos e fizeram um desvio pelo bairro Satélite Íris via Avenida Mário Scolari.
