Entre as possíveis causas do acidente está o mau estado de conservação das placas de sinalização do local.

O acidente envolveu um ônibus escolar e um veículo Volkswagen Gol. Os condutores dos veículos não sofreram nenhum ferimento, apenas os passageiros. O Corpo de Bombeiros socorreu uma mulher que estava no ônibus e um passageiro do Gol.

O condutor do Gol informou que seguia pela Rua João Vieira Sardinha quando, ao chegar no cruzamento com a Avenida Brasil, não viu a placa de sinalização e, seguiu e colidiu com o ônibus.

Segundo os envolvidos no acidente e a população da região, a placa de ‘pare’ de uma das ruas está em mau estado de conservação.
