De acordo com a corporação, quando a equipe chegou ao local, na Rua Milton Gonçalves, após uma denúncia anônima, encontrou as crianças abandonadas e sujas de fezes em um tanque de água. Uma delas tem hidrocefalia.

Aos policiais, a mãe alegou que precisou deixar os filhos em casa para conseguir ir trabalhar. Segundo ela, a situação ocorre desde o dia 20 de março, quando conseguiu um emprego para atuar como camareira.

A mulher foi presa em flagrante e levada à Delegacia de Infância e Juventude (DIJ) de Campinas. Ela deve responder por abandono de incapaz.

As crianças também foram levadas à delegacia e ficaram sob os cuidados do Conselho Tutelar.
