De acordo com informações iniciais da Guarda Municipal, um Land Rover acessou a Rua do Petróleo com o sinal aberto. No entanto, um Astra que vinha pela Avenida Santa Bárbara avançou o sinal vermelho e bateu no outro veículo. A colisão fez os carros pararem em meio as árvores.

O motorista do Land Rover não se feriu graças ao ativamento dos airbags.  

Já o outro veículo ficou tão danificado que foi preciso cortar as ferragens para socorrer as duas pessoas que estavam nele. O resgate as encaminhou ao pronto-socorro.

Ainda não há informações detalhadas quanto ao estado de saúde das vítimas.
