De acordo com a Polícia Militar (PM), o caso aconteceu por volta das 6h, na Rua Joaquim Alves da Costa. Quando os policiais chegaram no local, o homem estava pendurado no poste, mas ainda estava vivo.

A PM acionou a Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz (CPFL) para desligar a energia da área e a Empresa Municipal de Desenvolvimento de Campinas (Emdec) para interromper o fluxo de veículos durante o atendimento da ocorrência.

No entanto, o homem não resistiu aos ferimentos e acabou morrendo antes do desligamento. 

Ainda segundo a corporação, a vítima aparentava estar em situação de rua e não possuía documentos de identificação.
