A informação do óbito foi divulgada pelo Hospital das Clínicas (HC) da Unicamp, em Campinas (SP), onde ele estava internado desde então.

O acidente aconteceu durante troca dos vasilhames, houve um vazamento de gás que culminou em uma explosão no lugar onde funcionava a empresa de alimentos. Outras seis pessoas estavam na fábrica, mas não ficaram feridas.

Na ocasião, o homem sofreu queimaduras pelo corpo. Ele chegou a ser socorrido, com o apoio do helicóptero Águia da Polícia Militar, e foi encaminhado para HC. Nesta segunda, no entanto, não resistiu aos ferimentos e veio a óbito.

De acordo com a Guarda Municipal de Americana (GAMA), a tubulação de gás se rompeu em uma empresa abandonada na altura do número 928. A empresa Comgás foi acionada para conter o vazamento e já fez os reparos.

O Corpo de Bombeiros foi até o local e o local já foi liberado.
